About this course

The authors of the course have clearly defined what a team and a leader are. We intentionally put these two concepts in one course – a leader cannot exist without a team and vice versa.

After completing this course, you will realise that there is no magic in leadership and team building – there is only knowledge of theory, hard work and a willingness to work on your mistakes. We will systematically analyse the stages of team building, find out what leadership styles exist nowadays, and which is most suitable for you. We will teach you how to set goals and show you different methods of setting goals in a team. You will also learn to set goals based on the psychological type of your employee. A large block will be devoted to corporate culture – there we will talk about the power of non-financial rewards and effective ways to create an atmosphere of engagement in a team. We will also talk about meetings – after this course, your team will love them!

You will learn how to grow leaders in your team and calmly delegate your tasks to them. The knowledge on the motivation of employees and a team, as well as the magic phrases that will inspire any person from your team will help you with this. We will devote one lesson from the course to resolving conflict situations – you will learn how to benefit from them. At the end of the course, we will talk about ways to monitor the effectiveness of a team and its head.
Course structure

Lesson 1. How to create and manage successful teams

We will learn to assemble a team, based on the goals and objectives facing you. We will master six specific and measurable criteria for team effectiveness, as well as talk about the popular reasons for inefficiency. We will also analyse 5 stages of company's development – from formation to change and separation. Additional materials for the lesson include tips for managing a team, examples and cases of a bad leader, as well as a checklist for creating the perfect team.

Lesson 2. Decide which leader to be

We will discuss how to become the head, not a manager for your team. We will take a closer look at the different leadership styles (liberal, authoritarian, and democratic) and help you decide on the best style for you. You will learn about the five types of leader by Jimmy Collins. In additional materials, you will find step-by-step instructions for working on personal leadership potential, as well as a detailed description of the team formation.

Lesson 3. Set your mega-task, assign roles

The lesson is about goal setting. We will figure out how to use a common goal for team building. We will tell you how to distribute tasks in a team so that it worked as effective as possible. You will learn why it is so important to plan the company’s future in detail and how to use the flexible SCRUM and Kanban methodologies for this. In the appendix, you will find a description of the roles and functions in a team in various typologies, the stages of work on a project based on SCRUM, as well as the principles of creating a team from famous businesspersons.

Lesson 4. Introducing corporate culture

We will talk about corporate culture – we will analyse three of its main elements and show you how to maintain the integrity of your team with their help. We will teach you to create an atmosphere of engagement in a team – we will tell you more about effective team building, exercises and games. In the appendix, you will find instructions on creating corporate quests, as well as 12 ways to unite a team using digital tools.

Lesson 5. Changing the meeting algorithm

We will figure out how to conduct an effective meeting. We will give you 6 tools to help you get the most out of your meetings. We will tell you how to determine the agenda, format and schedule of a meeting, as well as draw up a plan. You will learn how to interact with your team effectively – to encourage feedback and active discussion. Additional materials for the lesson include a checklist of the perfect meeting.

Lesson 6. Encourage independent decisions

We will talk about growing a team of independent specialists. After this lesson, you will be able to draw up a development strategy for the project team, capable of making independent decisions. We will look at the psychological types of team members and find out the features of interaction with each of them. We will talk about personal motivation – in additional materials, you will find the top three reasons why employees “burn out”, and we will give you a few phrases that will help you raise morale of any employee.

Lesson 7. Motivate

You will learn to motivate employees. Motivation can be financial and non-financial. We will analyse specific situations and tell you how the staff motivation system works in Google, Apple and other companies. In the appendix, you will find five phrases that the head cannot say, as well as popular reasons for a team’s failure.

Lesson 8. Resolving conflicts

We will figure out how to help your team overcome a difficult situation and grow because of it. We will identify the main causes of conflicts, give you 5 conflict management strategies, and also describe how to use negotiations to resolve a conflict. The second part of the lesson is devoted to conflict prevention – we will give 6 ways to prevent conflicts. In additional materials, you will find 18 tips from a professional conflict expert, as well as 10 basic conflict genes (trigger situations that lead to disagreement).

Lesson 9. Monitoring team performance

We will talk about ways to keep up with the times in matters of team management in an ever-changing reality. We will talk about the main features of team effectiveness. We will give you 3 ways to check the effectiveness of a team, as well as a checklist to test the effectiveness of the head and each team member. At the end of the lesson, you will find 5 tips for improving team effectiveness – from using special software to improving communication in the team.
