Distance learning in Germany is prolonged for an additional year
Taking into the account the second wave of the pandemic, Germany is in no hurry to return to the traditional learning format.
The Association of Teachers predicts that students of both middle and high schools will spend not only the current but also the next academic year learning remotely.
Currently, some of the schools in the country continue to operate in the so-called hybrid education format. What's been coined the hybrid format holds a combination of online and offline lessons at regular intervals. This format will be practised until an effective and affordable coronavirus vaccine is invented for mass vaccinations to get underway.
German teachers believe that due to the reduction of full-time classes and restrictions introduced in schools, a quarter of students will face severe problems in learning and the acquisition of knowledge. Primarily, this will affect students who do not have the necessary equipment for studying at home (such as a computer and high-speed Internet). Children from special needs schools and pupils who do not speak German at a good level will also experience significant problems.
