With a new app called Insta Novels, you can now read full-length novels in Instagram stories. Insta Novels was built as a media side project for the New York Public Library (NYPL).

The app was launched last year, quickly gaining popularity and inspiring over 300 thousand Instagram users to read novels in their stories. This year, Insta Novels was named the winner of the Innovation by Design Awards in the Apps & Games category.

The Insta Novels library currently features world famous novels by F. Kafka, C. Dickens, E. Poe, L. Carroll and other authors.

NYPL employees were surprised to hear about the popularity of the app with users of the popular social network. Corinna Falusi, chief creative officer of Insta Novels, highlighted the fact that reading text has become popular on a platform geared towards visual content.

The key to the app's success lies in their unusual format. Developers used the full functionality of Instagram, adding music, animations, gifs and stickers to the novels. Each novel opens with an animated musical cover, and you can hear the sound of rustling paper whenever you turn a page.

Falusi believes that Insta Novels is the first step towards developing an active collaboration between libraries and Instagram.
