AICTE regulates online learning for technical professions

| News

The All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has issued guidelines for devising and implementing online technical education programmes.

This will be one of the first guidelines in the world to regulate online learning for technical subjects.

The AICTE guidelines have defined the approval process for online courses and the requirements they must meet. The guidelines additionally list the educational establishments that can put forward their programmes for consideration and any rules for their approval. This way, the AICTE guidelines can resolve many of the conflicts in the education system that have arisen due to the coronavirus pandemic and the compulsory transfer of Indian students to online learning.

The guidelines are only applied to educational areas such as management, IT, artificial intelligence, engineering, logistics and tourism. Simultaneously, an online course could last twice as long as a traditional course and recruit three times as many students, including those from abroad. Every course must be re-accredited by AICTE every five years. Upon completing an online course, students will also obtain certificates corresponding to standard higher educational certificates.
