China’s experiments: lessons on the web

China’s experiments: lessons on the web

| News

China has launched one of the most extensive educational experiments in the world.  Due to the pandemic, universities and schools have entirely switched to a remote learning format.

Currently, more than 170 million students are taught online in China. The new system of Chinese distance education was launched incredibly quickly, without prior training and almost from scratch.

The online educational platform includes all school subjects, textbooks, and additional materials (films, motivational videos, and classical literature). The resource also contains all the necessary information about the prevention of Covid19.

By studying online, Chinese students can view recorded video tutorials an unlimited number of times. They choose the class, subject and topic they are interested in. A username and password are provided to log in to the system. Some lessons are also available to the public.

It is still tricky for experts to assess the results of the experiment because the platform was launched relatively recently. However, it can already be noted that China was able to successfully create an extensive resource at breakneck speed, whilst having no previous experience of such an undertaking.

In addition to a single platform, Chinese students will be able to access other educational resources. During the pandemic, major websites plan to make their educational material freely available to everyone.
