Irish universities employed a new method for selecting and enrolling students this year.
For the first time, a lottery was used to determine who passed the competition. This lottery system was a necessary measure due to the high number of applicants with top scores. Interestingly, the lottery was required for nearly all fields of study, including medicine (notably dentistry), business and management, engineering, and IT specialities.
The Irish authorities anticipate this improvement will promote fairness and equality among applicants with identical scores while preserving the country's high educational standards.
