Japan allocates $2.8 Billion to purchase mobile computers for remote learning
The Japanese government has announced the launch of the GIGA project to purchase computers for remote learning.
The imperative to urgently switch to an online teaching format was dictated by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Japan's Minister for Education, the new GIGA training programme should provide a computer for every student from primary to middle school classes.
The launch of the GIGA project, founded in 2019, was planned for 2024, but due to the lockdown, it was decided to accelerate its implementation. The state has already allocated a budget of $2.8 billion for this.
Analysts claim that the project promises the most significant windfall for the manufacturers of Chromebooks, because of their low cost and user-friendly software.
On average, the government plans to buy about seven to eight million new computers this year.
