Study Group acquired by investment company Arete Education
International educational programmes provider Study Group has announced a change of ownership. The company has been acquired by Arete Education – an investment structure in the higher education sector created by Global University Systems (GUS) and US private investment firm Brightstar Capital Partners.
The financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. It is known that Arete Education acquired all of Study Group's academic operations. The company's employees will be transferred to the new owner.
Study Group is one of the world's largest providers of international preparatory programmes for students wishing to enter universities in English-speaking countries. The company prepares students for undergraduate studies by teaching them academic and language skills. Study Group currently operates in three main markets: the UK, the US and Ireland, managing university programmes and campus services.
Arete Education is a joint venture between Global University Systems and Brightstar Capital Partners. Founded in 2015, Global University Systems (GUS) is a Dutch commercial conglomerate that manages educational institutions around the world, including the University of Law in the UK and the University of Canada West.
Arete Education said it intends to invest in AI tools to improve student educational outcomes. Study Group chief executive Ian Crichton, commenting on the deal, said:
"The investment will enable Study Group to continue to grow in line with student demand, strengthen the support we provide to our university partners and governments, and expand the services we provide to students around the world."
Crichton emphasised that the company would retain its focus on teaching quality and student support. "We also see real opportunities for future development in line with changing trends and international student engagement," he added.
