Atherstone School Finds a New Furry Friend
Outwoods Primary School in Atherstone, Warwickshire, having experienced deep sadness after the loss of their famous cat, Silla, has found solace in a new pet – a Maine Coon named Aloysius O’Hara.
Twelve-year-old Silla, who won the hearts of students and teachers, passed away in November 2024, leaving behind thousands of dedicated fans on social media and fond memories. Her devotion and affection helped children cope with exam stress, making her an indispensable part of the school family.
Silla's death, short for Priscilla Outwoods, was a real blow to the school community. The school principal, Sally Taylor, said that the students were "devastated" by the loss of their favorite. However, soon after, the school administration contacted the charity Cats Protection and learned about a cat in need of a home. This is how Aloysius O'Hara, named after the colorful character from Dr. Seuss's tale "The Lorax," appeared at Outwoods Primary.
The new pet quickly won the love of students and teachers. Like Silla, Aloysius roams freely around the school, peeking into classrooms and participating in school life. "He goes into classrooms and comes out of them, goes into meetings and comes out of them, and just will be around the children," says Mrs. Taylor. The presence of the cat not only lifts the mood but also helps children feel more comfortable and relaxed in the school environment. The school hopes that Aloysius O'Hara will become as much a favorite as Silla, bringing joy and support to students for many years to come.
